EDCS Grab Bag – 48H

R12,915.00

The EDCS Grab Bag is a functional 48-hour survival kit that forms part of a Layered Survival System*. This Pack can be pushed to 72 hours plus if one is competent in basic survival skills. The strategy behind the bag focuses on the three main priorities, regardless of the situation, these priorities do not change. This makes the kit functional no matter the situation as the basic priorities are covered:

  1. Immediate (Metabolic) Needs: Core Temperature | Hydration | Calories
  2. Preventative Needs: First Aid | Navigation | Signal
  3. Supplemental Needs: Tools | Maintenance | Repair

The Shelter System functions around the following: something to sleep on; something to sleep in & something to sleep under. With this in mind & the multi-application of these items, inclusive of a already set-up Ridge Line, one covers the Core Temperature control. (this does not include personal clothing items)

The Fire Kit (system) provides at least 3 methods of starting a fire, which lends itself to the Core Temperature need, as well as, Calorie intake (food prep), Signal & Water purification (hydration).

The Water Kit allows for 2 ways to purify Water (hydration), apart from the normal fire application. These 2 options are focussed on providing drinking water whilst staying mobile.

The provision of Subsistence places an emphases on Calorie intake without the specific need to take time out to prepare food. Ready-to-Eat meals is the way to go. There may not be time to stop to make a fire, fish, etc, especially in a possibly non-permissive environment.

The Trauma & First Aid Kit concentrates on covering the basics with proper medical gear (still being mindful of cost).

The Navigation Kit is considered an add-on to your own GPS or Mobile Phone. It’s highly recommended to try and obtain a map of the area. The compass & map is for back-up should your electronic device fails.

The Tool Kit in correlation with the Survival Tin completes the Repair & Maintenance side of the needs, inclusive of basic tools required to survive.

Communication Kit allows (suggested gear) for power supply to your Signal, Navigation & Comms gear. As well as the non-electronic items for comms in an emergency situation.

Description

The Grab Bag is sometimes referred to as a Go Bag; INCH Bag; Get Home Bag or Bug Out Bag (BOB Bag). Although the INCH bag is more related to a longer term survival application, therefore it is heavier and hence a larger bag with more gear.
