Description
Primary uses of bacteriostatic water
- Reconstituting powdered drugs with Water for Injection: Many medications, such as hormones, peptides, and some antibiotics, supply a freeze-dried powder to preserve their potency. BWFI dissolve the powder, creating an inject-able liquid.
- Diluting concentrated medications: Some drugs need to be diluted to a specific concentration for safe dosing. The preservative in BWFI (water for injection) maintains the sterility of the solution as multiple doses withdraw over a period of up to 28 days.
- Support for multi-dose vials: Unlike sterile water for injection, which is for single-use only, the benzyl alcohol in BWFI inhibits bacterial growth. Puncture a single vial multiple times is how this BWFI functions.
