Description
Ceramic Pivot Ball Bearings washer fits into the knife where the Honey Badger blade rotates, around the T8 pivot and on both side of the knife blade.
Ceramic ball bearing use ultra-hard, lightweight ceramic balls instead of traditional steel. They spin faster, run cooler, last longer in harsh conditions, and reduce friction. However, they are significantly more expensive. They can also be brittle and more prone to cracking under sudden, heavy impacts.
Primary Differences
- Weight: Ceramic Pivot Ball Bearings can weigh up to 40% less than steel balls. This lowers the energy required to get them spinning and reduces strain on moving parts.
- Friction and Speed: Ceramic is smoother than steel. This means less friction and up to 20% to 40% higher operating speeds.
- Durability: Ceramic is harder than steel. It also does not rust or corrode. However, this hardness makes them more brittle and at risk of shattering under extreme shock or weight. Steel is more forgiving and handles sudden, heavy hits better.
- Lubrication: Because they do not rust, ceramic bearings can run with very little to no grease and can even be used dry in some applications. Steel bearings always require proper lubrication to prevent rust and wear.
