Description
A surgical suture is a medical device, commonly called a stitch, used to hold body tissues together after an injury or surgery.
Main Types
- Absorbable: Made from materials like Vicryl or PDS that dissolve naturally in the body over time. Used for deep tissues or internal organs.
- Non-absorbable: Made from materials like nylon or silk that do not dissolve. Used for skin closures and require physical removal by a doctor.
vs. Stitch
- Suture: The actual medical thread or material used.
- Stitch: The physical loop or technique used to pass the thread through the tissue.
